Eaton Manor arrived with a large forward pack, so we encouraged the Finchley team to hit the rucks and mauls hard, win quick ball and then use the space outwide.
The game didn't start according to plan, with the Eaton Manor full back running beautifully and scoring a great try within the first few minutes. It was converted to see us go down 7-0. Our forwards then started winning some good, quick ball and we went through lots of phases. After some good work by the forwards, Dan put his head down and ran for the corner, managing a lovely try. Joseph Ball converted, tying the game at 7-7 for half time.
Finchley started the second half well, scoring quickly through John Lewis cutting back through the forwards and managing to place the ball over the line in the tackle. Joseph Ball managed to convert again putting us 14-7 ahead. Shortly after, Dan managed another try in the corner but he unfortunately wasn't able to convert his own try leaving us 19-7 ahead.
Shortly afterwards, some great running again by the Eaton Manor full back (or was it poor tackling by Finchley?) saw them go in again, however a failed conversion left the game at 19-12.
With Eaton Manor needing a converted try to draw the game, they tried their hardest to get the ball wide, but good defence meant we held out to the final whistle and a 19-12 win.
Overall it was a good performance by the Finchley Falcons. The forwards produced a lot of good, quick ball which Jonah cleared well and accurately. The execution by the backs could improve and some of the tackling needs work, but overall we were please with the performance.
Eaton Manor then went on to play the Finchley Harriers (report to follow).
Finchley Falcons were: 1. Makenzie Caddick; 2. Niall Sexton; 3. Luke Evans; 4. Charlie Smith/Kier Miley; 5. Eoin Murphy; 9. Jonah Lowenstein; 10. Dan Shaw; 11. Liam O'Flynn/John Lewis; 12. Joseph Ball; 13. Joseph Cracknell; 14. Joseph Griso Dryer; 15. Stephen McCarthy
