U11 Falcons win both games at Wasps

On a very cold, but bright morning we turned up at Wasps with an almost full Falcons contingent. With a fairly full Harriers squad, we were about 35 boys in total. Wasps wanted a very full warm-up so games started at 11am.

The Falcons started a bit slowly and seemed to lack some of the physical presenece they had demonstrated in their last win against Ruislip. We also didn't use the wide pitch to full advantage with too much cutting back in towards the traffic. Cameron managed a "typical Cameron" try forcing his way over the line in the tight, which (with Dan's conversion) put us 7-0 up at half time. The second half was largley played in the same vain; however Danny (who was making his debut for the Falcons on the right wing) scored a lovely try in the corner. Dan converted again putting us 14-0 ahead. Wasps came back at the end of the game with some strong forward play, which saw them score in the last minute. Final score: 14-7 to the Falcons.

After a short break and some words of "encouragement" from the coaches, we saw a much improved performance in the second game. Niall and Luke upped their game in the forwards and the backs started to use the width of the pitch. We dominated the game; two tries by Niall, both converted by Dan, gave us a 14-0 half time lead. Cameron scored from a tap penalty in the second half and Dan's final conversion made it 21-0.

Overall, a good effort by the boys. The first game saw a lot of effort, but reversion to some old, bad habits. These were largely eliminated in the second game and as a result the win was more comfortable against a very decent Wasps side.
