Clarkey Memorial Match Celebrates the Values That Define Finchley Rugby

Clarkey Memorial Match Celebrates the Values That Define Finchley Rugby

George Loureda12 Mar - 14:16

The Finchley Rugby family came together last Friday evening for the Clarkey Memorial Match

More than just a game, the evening was a reminder that the true legacy of Clarkey lives on through the values he inspired in the next generation of players.

The Clarkey Memorial Match was a special night held in memory of James “Clarkey” Clarke — and one that perfectly reflected the values he represented: passion, commitment, respect and discipline.

The clubhouse was packed with players, coaches, parents and supporters from across the club, it was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Finchley Rugby community and the impact Clarkey had on those around him.

On the pitch, the Red Colts and Blue Colts produced a match worthy of the occasion. Played with intensity and pride, the game demonstrated the very qualities Clarkey stood for — hard work, teamwork, discipline and respect for the game and each other.

In a thrilling contest that went down to the final moments, the Red Colts scored a dramatic late try to edge a 20–19 victory.

After the match the teams returned to a packed clubhouse for the presentation of medals and the Clarkey Cup, where the applause from the crowd reflected more than just the result. It recognised the effort, sportsmanship and spirit shown by both sides — exactly the kind of rugby Clarkey believed in.

More than just a game, the evening was a reminder that the true legacy of Clarkey lives on through the values he inspired in the next generation of players.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise the evening and to all those who came along to celebrate a very special member of the Finchley Rugby family.
