Finchley Hawks vs Finsbury Park Vets - Friday, 21st February

On a brisk Friday evening, Finchley Hawks played host to Finsbury Park, who proudly fielded a Vets team for the first time in their history. Despite the challenging conditions, a strong crowd of Finsbury Park supporters gathered to witness the contest.

Both teams began energetically, but it was Finchley who struck first. After just 12 minutes, Bryden Fraser crossed the line on the right-hand side to open the scoring. The conversion was missed, leaving the Hawks 5-0 ahead.

Midway through the first half, Finchley capitalized on some loose defending from Finsbury Park. Matt Hastings powered over to secure the Hawks’ second try, extending their lead to 10-0—a scoreline that remained until halftime.

The second half saw a shift in momentum. Just 10 minutes in, Finsbury Park’s left winger, John Startin, burst out of his own half to score, narrowing the gap to 10-5. The visitors gained confidence, and 20 minutes later, Startin intercepted a pass to run in his second try under the posts. Ed Morgan added the extras, putting Finsbury Park in the lead for the first time at 10-12.

However, the Hawks were not finished. In the closing stages, Ruairi O’Connell powered over for a decisive try. David Tuft made no mistake with the conversion, sealing a hard-fought victory for Finchley.
