Eton Manor 2nd XV Women 12 v Finchley Phoenix Women 41

A composed, clinical and physically dominant display from Finchley Phoenix

Sunday 18 January

A confident Finchley Phoenix side travelled to Eton Manor on Sunday full of belief following an emphatic victory over Cheshunt in their previous outing — and they delivered another outstanding performance with a commanding 41–12 league win.

The opening stages were evenly contested, with both teams sharing possession and territory. Finchley eventually broke the deadlock after 23 minutes with a well-worked score finished by Bailley McIntosh on the right wing. The move began deep inside Finchley’s own 22, where Bailey Oosthuizen gathered and kicked ahead before regathering to spark an attacking sequence that saw the backs move the ball sharply across the field. 0–5

Eton Manor responded with determination and were rewarded after 29 minutes when strong forward play created space on the left for second row Elouise Piggott to power over and level the scores. 5–5

Finchley regrouped immediately and restored their lead just a minute later. A strong break from Keirha Blake-Lightbody from inside Finchley’s half split the defence, with Lara Corner first up in support before carrying on scoring under the posts. 5–10

Momentum firmly swung Finchley’s way, and after 34 minutes sustained forward pressure saw Emeka Dawkins drive over beneath the posts. Bailey Oosthuizen added the conversion to send Finchley into the break with a deserved lead.

Half-time: 5–17

Finchley continued to dominate territory after the restart, keeping Eton pinned in their own half. On 43 minutes, another incisive run from Keirha Blake-Lightbody created the opening for Ruby Glynn to score, securing the bonus point. Oosthuizen again converted. 5–24

The pressure told again on 51 minutes when Eton Manor centre Jummy Manor was shown a yellow card for a high tackle on Daisy Djabi, who was clear through. The referee awarded a penalty try. 5–31

Finchley showed no sign of easing off, and four minutes later Daisy Djabi crossed on the right following another well-executed attack. 5–36

Further reward came on 61 minutes when Oceana Ennis finished confidently on the left to extend Finchley’s lead. 5–41

Eton Manor continued to show commendable effort and were rewarded late on when Jummy Manor scored under the posts on 73 minutes, with Elouise Piggott adding the conversion. This proved to be the final score of the match.

Full-time: 12–41

Several performances stood out across the pitch.

Amelia Thompson was deservedly named Forward of the Match, delivering a powerful and tireless display that typified the Phoenix effort — strong carries, effective breakdown work and a relentless engine throughout.

In the backs, Carmen Mendez Macias and Ruby Glynn shared Back of the Match honours after impressive performances that blended attacking threat with disciplined defensive work, helping to keep the Phoenix on the front foot for much of the contest.

A composed, clinical and physically dominant display from Finchley Phoenix, with strong contributions across the park, capped off another excellent away performance and further momentum heading into the next fixture.
