Finchley RFC Supports Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May)

George Loureda11 May - 08:29

Speak Up. Reach Out. Keep Talking!

Be kind. Check in. Listen.

Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May) is an important moment for us as a club to pause, reflect and check in on one another. At Finchley RFC, we pride ourselves on being One Club — a community that looks after its players, members, families and supporters both on and off the pitch.

Rugby has always been about more than the game. It’s about connection, belonging and support — and that extends to mental wellbeing.

We’re proud to highlight two organisations doing outstanding work in this space:
LooseHeadz – a rugby-driven mental health charity working to place a mental health lead at every rugby club and tackle the stigma around speaking up. Their message is simple: it’s okay not to be okay, and no one in rugby should suffer in silence.
Mind – one of the UK’s leading mental health charities, providing advice, support and resources for anyone experiencing mental health challenges.

Why this matters at Finchley RFC
With over 500 players and a thriving community, we know that life off the pitch can be just as demanding as the game itself. Whether it’s pressures from work, school, injury, or everyday life, mental health affects us all.

We encourage everyone in our community to:
Check in with teammates, friends and family
Take time to look after your own wellbeing
Speak up if you’re struggling — there is always someone ready to listen

Support is available
If you or someone you know needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out:
Visit LooseHeadz for rugby-focused mental health support and resources
Visit Mind for confidential advice, helplines and guidance

At Finchley RFC, we stand together — not just as teammates, but as a community.

Look out for the daily messages this week!
