Under the lights at Summers Lane, the Finchley Hawks produced a performance full of heart, passion and commitment in a gripping Middlesex Vets Cup Final that went right to the wire.

In a tense and fiercely competitive contest, both sides left absolutely everything on the pitch, with Finsbury Park eventually edging the game 5-7 in what was a superb advert for vets rugby.

Finchley’s try came through Paul Coleman after a powerful drive and clever pass from Eddie Buxton Jnr, sparking huge celebrations from the large crowd gathered on the touchline.

Finchley Man of the Match was awarded to James Murray for his all round performance in defence and attack.

Congratulations to Finsbury Park for their part in such a hard-fought final and for ultimately coming out on top.

While the result just slipped away, everyone connected with Finchley RFC can be hugely proud of this Hawks side. The Hawks have had a tremendous season and came agonisingly close to lifting the cup. The drama, commitment and togetherness shown throughout the campaign has been outstanding.

A special thank you goes to Sean Linden, who has captained the Hawks superbly all season, leading the side with real passion, commitment and pride.

And finally, thank you to all the supporters who came down in such great numbers to back both teams and create such a brilliant atmosphere at Summers Lane. Nights like these show exactly what Finchley RFC is all about.
