The Finchley squad arrived at 9.30 on Sunday morning at Barnet for the Barnet, Finchley, Royston triangular. A cold start it was but the player were fully primed and ready to go after warm up. A great show of support from the parents as always gave us the momentum to do some good on the pitch.
With four teams of five players each and with each team playing four games it was a busy morning. The players returned to the clubhouse pretty pleased with the game results for a well-earned hot dog. The general observations now are that the boys are understanding the rules of tag rugby, pulling together and playing as a team. We are now catching glimpses of 'champagne rugby' at its best. It’s really great to see this !
The results are as Follows:
Team 1 – Ollie, Jacob, Petr, Bobby and James R - Won 3, Lost 2
Really solid performances from everyone. Notably, Bobby and Jacob who had really good games, which resulted in some great trys.
Team 2 - Oscar, Munro, James, Alban and Rory - Won 2, Drew 1
Team 3 - Toby, Daniel, Telen, Eddy, Teddy and Alessandro - Won 2, Lost 1, Drew 1
Great performance from the boys, despite a few being in their first couple weeks of their rugby careers. The team really came together after the first match, offering good support when in possession, and working hard to stay flat in their defensive line. Eddy and Telen ran in some superb individual tries and Teddy, with his ever-steady hands, catching a few wayward passes.
Team 4 – Will, Cairo, Phoenix, Matthew and Yash
All players really got stuck and had fun. Cairo, played exceptionally well and Matthew was most improved player.
