Another great day for Finchley RFU. The Magnificent 7 of Oscar, Bobby, Munro, Phoenix, James M, Cairo and Rory rode into the Saracens festival in the mood for some serious rugby. They displayed great attacking nous with some awesome speedy tries and deft passing. In defence they took no prisoners, most of them diving to get their tags. The team has shown real development over the last few weeks and are now very astute in attack and very good at attacking space. In defence teams rarely score with first phase possession and put under a lot of pressure. We now need to work on our second and third phase attack as well as organisation after our first tackle in defence.
The boys attitude to the day was exemplary, they were positive towards their team mates and the opposition, made a real effort to get onside and demonstrated good sportsmanship. It was great to see how much they obviously enjoy each others company and love the game. One of the highlights of the day for me was watching 4 or 5 of them leaning on the advertising hoardings just chilling out and watching saracens warm up. Hopefully these are the memories that keep them in rugby. I would also like to add that the positive attitudes and support from the parents really help us coaches get the message across to the kids. They were competitive, but supportive, and really help us reinforcing the importance of winning and losing as a team.
Saracens obviously saw how great we were as we came joint first in their attitudes scoring system. This means that we are now invited to a tournament before the Saracens V Bath game in March.
